If you have newly moved to Istanbul with your family you will find that one of the first purchases you will need to make are clothes for your kids. With all the malls that have developed throughout the city there are now options for buying baby and children’s clothing suiting any budget. Although the below list is by no means comprehensive it will certainly get you started. Please do not hesitate to share your suggestions with other mothers in Istanbul in the comments below this article.
H&M entered the Turkish market in 2010 and is one of my favorite stores when it comes to baby and children’s clothing. Their collection is quite large, stylish, contemporary and affordable and the quality of their products is quite decent as well.
They have clothes for all ages, including newborns!. One of the things I particularly like is that a significant part of their collection includes pieces made of organic cotton.
You can browse through their collection (with the exception of discounted products) online on their website, however currently you will need to go to one of their stores to purchase as H&M does not yet offer online shopping in Turkey. H&M stores can be found in malls across Istanbul. You can access an up-to-date list of their stores here.
For those pregnant mommies out there; some H&M stores also feature a maternity department. I know the one in the Zorlu shopping mall for example does have a maternity section, but the one in Istinye Park mall for example does not!
For all those American mommies there is obviously no need to explain the concept of GAP. For those of you that are not so familiar with GAP: GAP is all about quality clothes that are stylish and comfortable. Their price point lies slightly higher than that of H&M, but if you keep track of discounts their clothes are still quite affordable. During the discount season they run discounts up to 50% (and sometimes even more!), so it is well worth taking a look at their website from time to time or to follow them on Facebook.
Jacadi Paris is a French higher-end children’s fashion label with boutiques across the globe. Their collection could be described as classic and elegant. For girls think ruffles, ribbons, and cute dresses, and for boys smart outfits including polos and shirts.
You can find a Jacadi Paris Boutique in the Zorlu Shopping Mall.
Although Mothercare stores sell much more than just clothes you will find that they still have a good selection, especially when it comes to basics such as rompers, tights, socks, sleepsuits, etc… Although I wouldn’t classify Mothercare as your most fashion-forward brand but the quality of their products is very good! For me, Mothercare is a good place to look for those basics that are sometimes even harder to find than the fun clothes. During discount periods they have up to 50% discount on most of their collection. You can shop online or go to one of their many stores.
Not my favorite place to shop for clothes but still worth mentioning. e-bebek focusses on online sales, however they have a few physical stores throughout the city as well. Clothing is only a small part of what they sell as their product selection ranges from pushchairs to breast pads. You won’t find their clothing selection to be the most fashion forward but their prices are affordable and you may occasionally find an item or two that are worth it.
